A Day in Frankfurt, Germany

Accommodations

I stayed the night at the Five Elements Hostel Frankfurt. The reviews cited that it was not in the best area, but it was walking distance from the train station which was convenient. It wasn’t the safest place to be alone at night (which I did not plan on), but I had no problem getting the hostel safely without being stopped by anyone. It was also not the nicest hostel but I had the room to myself so I can’t complain. The bathrooms were not the cleanest. It did the job but there is probably a better place you can stay.

Alte Oper

Transport

I took the train from Munich to Frankfurt after my day trip to Fussen.  It was delayed due to problems at the station between us so I arrived very late. They also did not announce things in English which was a little concerning after being stopped for several hours, but I did make it to my destination eventually. This was probably the worst public transportation experience I had in Europe just because people weren’t helpful in explaining the situation and where I needed to go.

Frankfurter Kranz at Cafe Laumer

Food

  1. Crepe Café Kalyvas Konditore was a crepe place I stumbled upon in the main square. It was alright. If you go make sure to sit upstairs.
  2. Frankfurter Kranz + tea at Café Laumer is recommended.
Frankfurt Hauptbahnhof

Attractions

  1. The Römerberg is the main square in Frankfurt and the traditional buildings are a great photo op.
  2. Old St. Nicholas church is also near Römerberg, but I didn’t go in. The bell tower only costs a few euro and had a student discount. It has a decent view of the city.
  3. Kleinmarkthalle is the main market in Frankfurt. Go there for some traditional food.
  4. Alte Oper, the opera house, is a beautiful building to walk by.
  5. Frankurter Kranz is a traditional cake native to Frankfurt. I recommend stopping by a café for tea and cake. It was actually very good!
