Third Stop in Ireland: Dublin

Accommodations

I stayed at Jacob’s Inn. The rooms were very clean, and the beds were built like cubbies so they provided lots of privacy which was nice. There’s a bar in the ground floor and no kitchen. I met some people in the bar but overall, I found in Ireland that people keep to their own group and don’t really socialize with strangers. They also found it weird that I was alone which was completely normal in the rest of Europe. That could just be my experience though.

Transportation

I used the train to get here like everywhere else in Ireland which is highly recommended considering the student discounts. In town I used the Light rail (Luas) to get to and from the hostel and walked most of the rest of the time. I used the airport bus to get back to the airport, which only took cash sadly but was running early enough in the morning.

The Long Room at Trinity College Library

Attractions

The Paddywagon Cliffs of Moher tour was a hit. It’s a bit expensive but the guide was great and if you can’t or don’t want to get a car then this is the easiest way to see the cliffs. You could also stay nearby and take a local bus but if you don’t have time, this is very convenient, and it was worth the money in my opinion. You also get to see the baby cliffs, Bunratty castle, and eat lunch in Doolin all with commentary by the guide. They give you just enough time to see stuff. If you are already touring another castle, you don’t need to go inside Bunratty. Pictures outside are enough. You also get to stop at a random gas station with a museum to US presidents and an uncleaned Guiness cup from Obama’s visit to Ireland are upstairs.

Besides the Cliffs tour, Grafton Street, the long room at Trinity college, Guinness Brewery, and Obama Plaza are also recommended attractions.

Temple Bar

Food

I went to Murrays to see the live music and dancing which wasn’t very impressive but needed to be checked off the list. The food was alright but know that it will be packed so get there early to get a seat and be willing to share a 4 top if you are 1 or 2. The Hairy Lemon is a famous place for live music which didn’t disappoint. I also got food here which I wouldn’t recommend because it was packed and only okay. Stage Door is a Café right near Temple Bar which has nice breakfast options.

What I would do differently

I would bring a friend because this has been one of the hardest places to be alone for me.
