Vibrant Night in Vilnius, Lithuania

July 30, 2021

The bus finally drops me off in Lithuania in the early daylight. I stumble to my hostel pulling my Away Carry On through the streets and after a little confusion, I make it inside through the tiny door.

Jimmy Jumps Hostel has great vibes. They have a no shoes rule, so it’s extra clean. The bathrooms and showers are decent, and the laundry service is as well. They have some comfortable seating in the common room that I rest in, but not for long because I need a proper meal.

I find a cool coffee shop named Daily Poison that I commit to walking to. They had really great avocado toast so it was worth it. Now that I’ve gotten some work done, it’s time to let myself recover from the bus ride.

For dinner I’m heading to Georgian House just when I find out that others from the hostel are as well. I join them and we try tons of different Georgian dishes between the 5 of us.

After dinner, the Europeans want a coffee so we go to Italala Café. They have lots of matcha options, so I have to try the latte (which wasn’t iced unfortunately). After that, we change for a night out, since it’s getting chilly as the sun goes down. Then, we grab a beer in the main square.

We meet some new people, including a guy who recently quit his job to continue developing his own Dungeons & Dragons website. I interview him about this a bit because it’s something I’d like to do too (well except not with D&D). Then, we go to +++, where I get my cheapest beer yet after standing in a long (but fast moving) line. We sit on the cement steps outside because it’s crowded. There’s lots of foreigners here but also locals, which I like.

Lastly, we try to find a club. We get denied from one because we weren’t dressed nicely enough, which is more than okay with me. Luckily we quickly find another named Rumor. We stayed here for the rest of the night and danced quite a bit.

This was such a great night. Things flowed easily from one to the next. I’m kind of surprised that I had one of my biggest “party” nights in Vilnius because I was even considering not stopping here to save time. I only ended up deciding to because the distances were too far to travel without a break.

My only complaint with the city is that when we left the club we couldn’t find a single thing to eat, even after asking locals.

Entrance to Uzupis

I’m hungover but this is my only day to explore so I get to it, starting at Bagelestai. This is a great little breakfast spot.

Next, I do a self-guided tour (because I obviously missed the guided one by sleeping in), stopping at St. Anne’s, the Gate of Dawn, Bernardine Gardens, Cathedral Square, Uzupis, Town Hall Square, the Presidential Palace, and Vilnius University.

After a rest it’s time for dinner, and because I was so impressed with Georgian food yesterday, I opt for another Georgian restaurant named after one of the dishes: Chacapuri. The other restaurant was fancier and had more dishes, but this one is cheap and does Chacapuri well. I also got a traditional dessert which was delicious.
