Weekend in Seville, Spain

This trip was booked through my study abroad program so it’s a bit different from other trips that I would plan.

Accommodations

We stayed at Hostel One which was nice. I didn’t get to see how this hostel is normally because our study abroad program kind of came in and took over. If anything, the room was a bit cramped, and the shower was not my favorite.

Transport

We took the Renfe train from Atocha which I have no complaints about. In the city, we split the costs of taxis and walked. There is also a light rail that we did not use.

Food

  1. Arabesca was a middle eastern restaurant that we had a dinner booked for us at. It included several courses and four drinks. The food was good but since we were all there this was probably one of my favorite dinners ever.
  2. Mama Ines was a café I got some cake in near the hostel. Pretty good.
  3. Torch Coffee Roasters was a recommendation by our program coordinator. It has American vibes and the matcha was pretty good.
  4. La Sacristia was a tapas place we went to which was standard.
  5. El Rinconcilla is a historical tapas bar that we went to that is the oldest bar in Sevilla. It’s recommended everywhere you look but as far as the food goes, it’s standard. We enjoyed the atmosphere

Attractions

  1. The Alcazar is one of the top things to do in Sevilla and people form a long line outside to get in. Purchase tickets ahead and make sure to be there on time. There is an audio tour, but it was difficult to understand and listen to with so many people there, so I just walked around and took pictures. It’s pretty but not that exciting.
  2. The Cathedral is also one of the top things to do. Christopher Columbus’s body is inside and the bell tower in very tall. If you’ve already seen enough cathedrals in Europe, you can skip this one.
  3. Metropol Parasol is the largest wooden structure in the world. This was worth it because it’s different from any other attractions I’ve been in in Europe. You can get some nice pictures and views on here, and just appreciate the unique architecture.
  4. Plaza de España has beautiful artwork and architecture, and also was featured in Star Wars (if that interests you).

What I would do differently

Everyone loves Seville, and it is beautiful. There’s not much to do so this would be a nice place to study or work, but as far as a weekend trip, I wouldn’t change what I did. I spent barely any time in the hostel and had a good time with friends! I just wish I could stay longer to relax and take in the city.
